Wires Off from my thumb

After three weeks finally the wires came off from my thumb on 23rd. It is still 2-3 weeks before i see full movement in the thumb. Reminds me of the time when I was in Class 12 and had met with an accident. Had a full hand fracture for full 45 days. It took more than a month for my arm to become fully straight.

Fractured Thumb

On the night of 1st Dec, I slipped in the wash room and fractured my right hand's thumb. What looked like a hair line fracture turned out to be a tricky one. Had to undergo a small operation and have two wires in my thumb for three weeks. It has been a great learning since then. Really, salute those who are ambidextrous!! Well, three more weeks to go before i can use my right hand, just can't wait this time to fly. Sometimes time passes away so slowly.

Time flies

Second year is nearing its end. Just three months more to go and i will be done with my MBA. Time just flies. How fast these 18 months at Planet-I have gone by!! Looks like that it was just a couple of months back that i came here. 18 months of steep learning curve. Learned a lot from the subjects taught, got the opportunity to learn from the best visiting professors and most importantly from my fellow class people. Cases, assignments, surprise quizzes, projects, mid terms, end terms, placements, fests, parties, DJ nights, concerts, chilling out, free riding, case competitions..the list goes on and on, one helluva experience at Planet-I. All I hope that it ends well. Fingers crossed!!

Sectornama

Finally i am getting an opportunity to go to the 'Mecca' of Indian B schools. Yes, on 19th Aug, I would be travelling to IIM Ahmedabad to compete in the finals of Sectornama . Sectornama is India's biggest consulting competition. More than 2000 teams battled in the various rounds and eventually only 12 teams have reached the finals. Yes, I am part of one of the 12 teams that have reached the finals (God, there were 2000+ teams, how did I clear all these rounds!!) I hope to bring some glory to IIM Indore through this consulting challenge.

Who represents whom?

So it happens again, i think it is the fundamental nature of people, rather i should say, people in positions of responsibility. At the time of elections, all the contestants are almost pleading for votes, but the scenario changes the moment people get elected. The so called 'leaders', forget that they are representing the people, and that their primary obligation is to serve those who have shown confidence in their promises. But it happens again and again and mind you i am not just talking about the politicians and their promises, but it happens even in institutions and colleges. Secretaries and committee chairs are elected after all the melodrama of section, regional and all sorts of politics, and in the end what happens, everyone is probably only bothered about their resume points. When it calls for actions, people hide in their rooms, shrug their shoulders and come up with sloppy excuses. Instead of leading from the front and voicing the concerns of the students in fron

Retail margins and blog

Today i bought a data card from Nehru Place and was surprised by the margin that the retailers get on the product. The MTS data card with MRP 1500 costs just 800 when you buy it from the distributor!! Some filthy big margins for the retailers.. Well, but that is not the focus of this post. Since i have my data card in place now, i was wondering what should i write about? The thought writing about my foodie escapades is still lingering in my mind? Well, let me keep this task for tomorrow.

End Term

End term has started. With one paper down, there are five more to go. Have filled up for a balanced mix of electives for next year. Lets see which all electives do i get. Keeping my fingers crossed. Well, today it was convocation day for PGP2 (Class of 2009-2011). Will miss few of the PGP2 guys, esp Anupam.

Mid Term Ends

This has been so far the coolest mid term at IIM Indore. 2 exams spread over a week..3 days to study Corp. Fin. Its a different issue that we study only on the last day. But when i compare this mid term with the term 1 mid terms, oh what a difference.. Slowly, slowly I think that i have started liking this place.

Dance of Democracy

Today I lost the consulting secy elections. Another good learning for me. It was a high stake game for me, but one thing i am sure of,there are some lessons which cannot be taught in classrooms. In the hindsight, what happens happens for the best..maybe something better is in store for me.

Change is good

Feels like i am back to my original self. Yesterday I participated in SIBM's event and qualified the first round where 200 teams battled it out and only 35 got through to the next stage. The second round is the creative round and now i have to think creatively. If there are no challenges then what's the purpose of living? Change is always good..

Cricket days are back

As the IPL(Indore Premier League) approaches the finals, the heat has turned to a high level. It was supposed to be a game that fosters cooperation between the various sections as each section had to keep at least two foreign players (players from other sections). To some extent it did achieve its goals, but i still believe that the section rivalries are very much there and will continue that way. Heres the good part, the IPL has given a good entertainment be it in the form of the bidding process, the match controversies, team selection issues and what not. The placement week holidays would have been monotonous without the IPL. On the entertainment front, IPL has been a grand success at Planet I. In fact this week even i shed my coaching gears and came down to play in the home ground of my section a.k.a I Block. I bowled after some 6-7 years and i must say that the bowling was not that bad. Thats the beauty of any sports. Even if you quit it comes back to you within a few days once

Walled?

Is technology making us less human? Perhaps yes, so it seems to me. Today we have 1000 friends on Facebook but how many are we really friends with? Do you get the urge to login into FB and check what your friend has posted? Who went where? Who's dating whom? Perhaps its the curiosity to know about others lives that keeps us hooked onto the Wall. But is there a way out? Oh ya, there is always a way out..get a hobby, play some sports, talk to real people, get a life..

Why MBA?

Last year sometime around October-December, I was pondering over this question. Trying to understand why I want to do an MBA? After lot of soul searching i narrowed down on few things. Its almost a year now and sometimes i wonder why am i doing MBA? Am i getting what I wanted to get out of this education? Or is it just another degree with exams and the topper get the best job? Slowly, I have realized that this is India and the US mindset does not work here. You don't choose so many things in life. Luck plays a major role where you end up for your internship, where you work and which career path you take. Sometimes I wonder am i doing the right things? Making the right decisions? In the right circle of people? Well frankly speaking I don't know..

"I’m a dog chasing cars.."

"You know what I am? I’m a dog chasing cars. I wouldn’t know what to do with one if I caught it" - The Joker Warning: The content that follows is wacky and vague, read it at your own risk Of late, a realization has dawned upon me. There is something missing, something that was so part of me, and suddenly it has subdued if not completely gone, it is rearing to raise its head, giving a call to start again. As far as I can remember, it started in class 9th when I joined the race and started chasing something. Later I realized that I was chasing a 6 points in my board exams, well I did not win but got decent marks that was just enough to keep me running. I had tasted blood; I liked the thrill and adrenalin rush, I loved the chase. Who cared what the results finally were? What mattered was the chase. Then I got into the next lap of the race and started chasing JEE. I must say that my character was formed during this phase of the race. When the lap ended, I had learnt a lo
